Eco-Tourism Non-Profit
The Rio Grande Valley Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas is dedicated to conserving, protecting, and celebrating the incredible diversity of native plants and habitats in our unique South Texas ecoregion. As part of the statewide Native Plant Society of Texas, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 1981, we support the mission of promoting conservation, research, and sustainable use of native plants through education, outreach, and example.
Our chapter engages the community through educational speakers, field trips, workshops, and hands-on projects such as demonstration gardens, plant identification, propagation, and habitat restoration. We believe that valuing and protecting native plants is essential not only for healthy ecosystems but also for the well-being and quality of life of all who call Texas home.
Texas is one of the most biologically diverse states, with over 5,000 native plant species. We work locally to help residents, businesses, and communities recognize native habitats as vital natural assets. By encouraging sustainable landscaping and habitat preservation, we promote practices that conserve water, support wildlife, and strengthen ecological resilience.
We also embrace the rich cultural and ecological diversity of our region. Our chapter strives to be welcoming and inclusive, honoring community voices while expanding opportunities to learn, participate, and lead. Together, we envision a future where native plants and habitats are valued, conserved, and celebrated for generations to come.
